Gartner recently published the latest version of their Market Guide for Mobile Threat Defense(1) and once again Zimperium was named a Representative Vendor. This is an annual guide that Gartner has done for the last three years and it is full of very useful information for anyone involved in mobile device security.
Among other things, Gartner sticks to their great executive summary format of delivering a few bullets of Key Findings and also Recommendations. While there are numerous good points and insights made about the category and the vendors providing solutions in the category in the 20-page document, a few that are worth highlighting:
- “Security and risk management leaders should leverage MTD to address evolving mobile security needs.” This statement is in the opening paragraph and reinforces the view that MTD is a critical component of any security strategy.
- “Depending on the vendor, the detection engine can be split between the cloud-based server and the device, or it can reside exclusively on the device… the on-device agent provides a better likelihood of the protection persisting over a compromised network.” This statement is extremely important and significant differentiation in how the vendors included in the Market Guide approach the problem. From day one, Zimperium has believed that there is only ONE right way to provide mobile security for enterprises and that is by residing and enforcing security directly on-device. As you evaluate solutions, don’t overlook this key attribute and make sure you fully understand the implications of on-device vs cloud-based.
