Zimperium Launches Latest Version of zIAP — Machine Learning-Based Security for Mobile Apps

Newest version of zIAP embeds enterprise-grade security into existing apps

DALLAS, TX, November 7, 2018 – Zimperium, the global leader in mobile threat defense (MTD), today announced the availability of the latest version of zIAP, Zimperium’s industry-leading, machine learning-based mobile security solution developed specifically to embed into existing mobile apps.

Organizations who build mobile apps frequently struggle with how to successfully meet the critical need to protect sensitive data, reduce fraud and ensure security for mobile users in today’s increasingly sophisticated cyber-risk landscape. The zIAP solution meets this need through its delivery in a software developer’s kit (SDK) format which leverages Zimperium’s machine learning technology to detect and stop cyberattacks whenever the app is accessed by end users.

zIAP is the only solution that delivers enterprise-grade security via a mobile application update, successfully allowing organizations to protect themselves and their mobile apps’ end users against operating system (OS) exploits, network attacks and malware. By using zIAP, organizations can have more visibility than ever before into what threats their apps are facing after they are deployed on customers’ devices. In addition, zIAP ensures organizations can keep their apps in compliance with regulations like HIPAA, PCI, GDPR and others.

Zimperium’s zIAP is powered by its patented z9 engine, which delivers on-device, machine learning-based detection to protect mobile applications and data at machine speed, without the delays and limitations of cloud-based solutions. z9 analyzes billions of data points from millions of devices to identify malicious behavior, and then creates sophisticated math models to enable on-device detection, allowing it to identify all attacks – even those that have never been seen before. In fact, z9 has detected every mobile exploit over the last five years, on-device and without requiring updates.

“We are seeing an increasing trend in the application development community to embed advanced mobile security,” said Ron Huda, chief executive officer, 3rd Eye Technologies. “With Zimperium, we know that any app we’re developing – even apps for use by government agencies – is equipped with the most sophisticated machine learning technology available, with research to back it up.”

“The mobile environment is fragmented with various OSs, browsers and hardware. It is evolving and presents new vulnerabilities and threats distinct from the Web app environment,” according to Dionisio Zumerle, sr director and Ayal Tirosh, sr principal analyst at Gartner. “App developers lack mobile expertise as well as a general understanding of the risks associated with mobile, and tend to directly transplant traditional application development practices to mobile. Their focus is on functionality, not security.”1

The key features of the updated version of zIAP include:

  • A SDK form factor that allows integration via a simple update of the customer’s app
  • 100 percent adoption rates, as no additional user actions or app downloads are required
  • Protection against device, network and malware-based attacks
  • Existing deployments are protecting tens of millions of mobile users
  • Providing visibility to prevent billions in potential fraud
  • Improved app tampering detection

Zimperium’s customers are identifying and stopping hundreds of thousands of threats, protecting their customers and reducing business risk by deploying zIAP. In 30 days, one zIAP customer identified:

  • 900,000 threats
  • 26,000 attacks
  • 2,500 Man in the Middle (MiTM) threats
  • 1,500 Rogue access points
  • 16,000 rooted/jailbroken devices

zIAP has provided this customer with visibility into more than $1 billion in potential fraud. Although statistics represent the experience of one organization, statistics are similar across all zIAP customers.

“zIAP is another industry-leading innovation from the Zimperium team which is aimed at protecting mobile devices with advanced machine learning technology,” said Chris Dworkin, GM of mobile application security, Zimperium. “As companies increasingly rely on their mobile apps to represent their organizations and conduct commerce, it is imperative that these apps are protected from cyber threats and attacks. zIAP is leading the way in enterprise-grade, world-class mobile app protection.”
